2015 AND ITS IMPACT ON OUR FUTURE

We have always been told that we are the leaders of tomorrow and I have always believed that, but we especially youth have always taken it out of context. I would address this issue as a Nigerian and believing that its up to us to grab the bulls by the horns so to speak. The leaders are not ready to relinquish the position of leadership and the youth are not even ready let alone prepared to take up such delicate positions so why do we clamor for something we are not prepared to have just because we have been told it belongs to us.

Nigeria is in a delicate position in its history and anything that happens now would shape our future going forward, the leaders we elect, the process in electing the right candidate and ultimately the following up of the elected candidates into doing their jobs and making them realize that not only are we counting on them but that we are with them all the way. The position of leadership though is a single man’s job but its a result of collective hands working together to achieve a set goal that’s why everything is called a ‘system’. The two biggest parties in the country have appointed their respective candidates, while one is the incumbent the other is a retired General that has ruled this nation during the military regime. Both have been in the highest position of this country and we have their scorecards with us, one is closer to our generation than the other, one ruled without being appointed while the other was elected, one was more or less a dictator while the other was a direct opposite. We know what we want and we know what we don’t want but sometimes because we want to get rid of what we don’t want we forget to realize that what we are using to replace what we don’t want is really what we detest.

We as the leaders of tomorrow are to wake up at this time to flex our leadership muscles by choosing our tomorrow, by exercising our rights and ultimately making them know that we are ready to take our rightful position. We have seen people squander their office by laundering money and taking drastic decisions just to fulfill their lustful desires, some have gone to the extent of even bragging about it because they have some kind of immunity. Its time for us to stand up and be counted, choose our candidate, stand by him and ultimately follow him up till he starts doing what he is meant to do. We should task each and every one of them from the councilors, chairmen, honourables, senators, governors and then the President.

The job doesn’t end at the polling booth, that’s the problem with Nigerian politics we always end it after election and only a selected few tend to speak out. We should all have one voice or rather all speak out when things are going bad, we should make them realize that we are not happy. They know the power we have but they feed us with ignorance and flex their fake muscles to deceive us into believing they are superior to us. We elected them, our powers collectively put them there and we should not let them forget that, we as a people can always bring change and now is the time for change. Either Buhari or Goodluck anyone could do the job but we should look at their manifesto closely and ask ourselves is this what I want individually and as a nation, if you have no feelings for this country then you are doomed because its your cross and you are as responsible as the president.

Let us all go out on the 14th of February 2015 knowing what we want and who we believe can make it happen and vote for that person, at this time the party doesn’t really matter because as we have seen in time past they can switch parties like they are porting from one network provider to the other. So its about who can stand by his decision, who can empathize with our situations, who can bring about the required change and who can ultimately deliver the Nigeria that we have a hope for to reality. We also as citizens should be ready to live by our decisions because once we vote a bad leader it is not the leaders fault that he is bad, it is our fault that we voted him in power. I hope we would have a prosperous New Year and the next four years would be one without bomb blasts, ravaging of villages, kidnapping of girls and many more that we have experienced in these last four years.
