THE STATE OF THE SITUATION: TASUED

Once a people especially youth have no viable leader the inevitable happens, things get escalated because they and even the tiniest of situations get to be blown out of proportion just because they can and have the freedom to do so. This is the case of students of Tai Solarin University of Education who for reasons best known to them decided to take matters into their own hands and show their grievances in ways they know best.

There has been previous situations like this that has been resolved without anything being vandalized or the media getting wind of it. The fact that the students believe they can vandalize school property and get away with it still baffles me as it’s their future that is at stake here anyway this situation pans out.  Vandalizing properties and passing your information are two different things, where one tells of what you really want the other just simply shows what you would do if such happens or has happened as the case may be.

It all started with the declaration by the school that any student that does not pay the school fees before exams would not be allowed to write exams. There has been widespread information even departments have pasted lists of students that have paid and hereby qualified to write the exams hereby making it easier for anyone who has a problem to either come forward or find a viable solution.  To every problem there are 3 ways to go about it, its either you go above it, below it or go through it, I can’t say the one these set of students decided to go with but its obvious it backfired and to realize that the SUG President actually knew about this act and let them go through with it leaves much to be desired, it only shows that he is not qualified to be a leader neither does he have the IQ of a politician. This situation has happened a couple of years ago and it was resolved amicably without anybody carrying even a cardboard or placard, for it to now escalate to carrying stones, sticks and all sorts just shows the level of immaturity of both the leaders and the followers.

There have been protests all around the country since the beginning of this year and the only ones that resolved to violence are the ones involving the terrorists or Thugs hired by Political parties to disrupt meetings and conventions.  Even in this same school when the sitting governor wanted to scrap the school there was a protest dubbed “Occupy Tasued” where there was always a meeting point and everything is said from motivational speeches to steps taken to resolve the issue, nobody carried stick to the government house or vandalized properties. If the SUG members are really ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ then not only have they failed the electorate but their generation as a whole from the President to the PRO and the SPC too.

After all is said and done the solution is still not in sight, their goal has not been achieved and they might spend the next couple of months sitting at home while some would nurse wounds they could have avoided all together. It is really stupid for someone to still go about vandalizing things at this age and time and thinks that would resolve issues. Their counterparts in LASU never vandalized and still they were arrested, they simply took to the streets and sat there cooking and singing making their grievances known until they got the attention of the Governor.  The deed has been done and I believe now is the turn of school to do their own vandalism and I just hope it won’t affect some people for the rest of their lives.

With that I say shame on the entire SUG as a whole, the perpetrators, the conspirators and even the ones that kept quiet believing if they don’t speak it can’t affect them. Shame on all of you. The lot of you should never smell a public office ever or a place of authority except you have learnt vividly the wrongs of what you have done and prevent it in the future. Next time behave like educators, students, leaders and eventually Nigerians.
